How it works

Memory and planning

From a line in a journal to a plan that survives interruptions.

1 A line lands

Your engine says, in the first person: "the newcomer took a purse of 40 septims right off me". It goes into Hulda's journal with a time, a place, and where the belief came from (observed, inferred, told by someone).

2 The gate reads it

A small trained head reads the line's meaning and stamps a class and a weight: theft, 9. Your manifest's events section is consulted first for phrasings only you can class. Own deeds and derived beliefs are never stamped as wrongs; a character cannot wrong herself.

3 Counters move

Each new line folds into the character's wake counters. A weight of 8 or more wakes on its own; smaller ones accumulate per class until they cross a floor. Three slights make a grudge. An apology does not accumulate; it is weighed against the wrong when a plan already stands.

4 The deliberator wakes

It writes a belief that cites the entries it rests on ("they wronged me (theft)"), recalls what is related, and composes candidates from the character's admissible operators. The ranker scores them against the situation and picks one, or holds. The receipt carries the reason: "first offense", "repeat offender x3, was good to me before".

5 The plan runs

Step one fires: report, walk to the guard, say the line. The plan is a bookmark. A drawn weapon, a scene, or a fresh order takes the body and the cursor stays where it was. When the body is free, the same step resumes. A step a never rule forbids at fire time is skipped, aloud. A plan nobody could serve for ten minutes expires; the day wins again.

6 Changing her mind

A new event while a plan stands goes through reconsider: an apology that outweighs the wrong stands the plan down, aloud; a graver wrong that composes better swaps it; anything below the margin holds course. At each day boundary every open plan is re-weighed against the week's ledger.

7 Nothing is silent

Every step writes a record. lw why reads them back. The one failure this design guards hardest against is a character who wanted something and never got to do it; that is LW4001, and it is shouted.
